LEEP: Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure

This is an in-and-out surgery on the cervix for diagnosis and treatment abnormal pap smears. This procedure replaces what used to be done through a cone biopsy, which could cause serious bleeding.

After surgery, patients can typically expect to return to usual activities after 1-2 days, depending on the anesthesia used.

Risks:

- Infection of the cervix or uterus can rarely occur
- Increased risk of premature delivery of a baby
- Advanced operative laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery
- Narrowing of the cervix which can cause infertility
